Geplapper vorne weg: Das Buch war in aller Munde. Ist es auch jetzt noch. Mich sprach es aufgrund der Drachen an, da ich sie liebe. Über alles. Seid ihr ihm verfallen oder steht ihr, wie ich, ihm nicht so gut gegenüber?

„Fourth Wing“, von Rebecca Yarros, sprach mich aufgrund des Klappentextes und der Drachen an.
Es ist für mich schwer, für dieses Buch, diese Geschichte, Worte zusammenzufassen. Aber ich probiere es dennoch. Was ich auf jeden Fall mochte, war die oberflächliche Darstellung von Kulturen und Minderheiten. (Ja, ich beschreibe es bewusst oberflächlich, weil ich es nicht korrekt anders identifizieren kann). Ich mochte die Drachen, dass bisschen Politik und Worldbuilding sowie die Magie. Die Geschichte war gut. Bekannt, mit vielen Elementen die man schon schnell erriet, wenn man lange als Leser*in unterwegs ist, aber für Neueinsteiger gut.
Violet. Violet war okay als Protagonistin. Zwar eine klassische Heldin, ab und an zu naiv und gutgläubig, aber okay. Die anderen Charaktere waren anwesend, besaßen aber keine richtige Tiefe oder Persönlichkeit.
Der Schreibstil war flüssig, man kam schnell durch die Seiten, war aber jetzt nichts besonderes oder für mich berührendes.
Was ich nicht mochte, geschuldet vermutlich dem Marketing, war die Darstellung der chronischen Erkrankung. Besser gesagt, dass die Werbung beschrieben hat, dass es ein so großes, prägnantes Thema im Buch war. Ja, es kam vor, sollte auch generell mehr vertreten werden und ist wichtig, angesprochen und ausgesprochen zu werden. Ihm Präsenz zu geben. Und ja, man sollte darüber nicht die Persönlichkeit definieren, oder ähnliches. Hier empfand ich diese Darstellung aber als unzulänglich umgesetzt, weil sie kaum bis gar nicht beschrieben wurde bis es nötig war oder nicht konkret darauf eingegangen wurde, was sie mit beinhielt, was die Schwerpunkte waren und wie man mit ihr umgeht. Sie wurde nicht einmal beim Namen genannt, was ich absurd finde, weil man genau daraus wieder ein Tabu macht. Okay, weiter im Text. Was nicht meinen Geschmack traf, war die Einbindung vom angehauchten, amerikanischen Militär. So das Setting. Für mich war das nichts und ich werde bei dieser Reihe auch keinen weiteren Gefallen daran empfinden. Auch die Romance und die Gefühle drangen nicht richtig zu mir durch.

Fazit. Vor allem für Einsteiger ins Fantasygenre ist das Buch passend. Ich kann es aber so an sich nicht empfehlen. Mir fehlt einfach die wirkliche Repräsentation, die es verspricht und die gute Ausarbeitung und Einbindung dieser. Deshalb werde ich der Reihe nicht weiterfolgen.

Das Buch hat von mir 3/5 🌹bekommen.

„Fourth Wing“, from Rebecca Yaros, interested me because of the dragon theme.
It´s hard for me, to put my feelings for this book, into words. But I will try.
I liked the superficial characterization of the diverse cast und cultures. (And yes, when I say superficial, than I mean it, because I can´t say identify it diffrently) I loved the dragons, obliviously and the little bits and pieces of polictics and worldbuilding. The story was good. Full of know elemnets, but good in its implementation und mostly something for new bookreaders, which wish to start in fantasy. The writingstyle was fluid, easy, but I couldn´t conect with it very well.
Violet, the mainprotagonist, was alright. The typical hero, a little bit naive and green behind the ears, but alright. The side characters were interesting, but stayed flat. Felt not very fleshed out, which I found disappoting.
What I really didn´t like, was the matter of represantation of the chronic illness. I am of the opion, it should become more included in books. To hell, it should defintly be and more be talked about. Sensilby, carefully and with the ups and downs. I´m also of the opion, it should not be the only charactertrait of a person. But here, it wasn´t very well researched. It wasn´t even named by its name, and that´s, thats what if found most upsetting. Here was a platform to do something for awareness, good one, and it wasn´t used very well. I also wasn´t a fan of the military setting. I just can´t get behind it. The romanceplot was also not for me.

So, to sum everything up. I can recommend this for people, who want to get started in fanatsy. But in itself? I can´t recommend it and thats why I´m not continuing this series.
